Rei Kawakubo is a Japanese fashion designer and the creator of the iconic brand Comme des Garcons.

Kawakubo studied fine arts and literature at Keio University. After graduation she worked in a textile company and freelance stylist. She brought a radical vision to her line. Her designs have been called groundbreaking and rule-breaking. Rei Kawakubo had stated that her goal has been to create “an ongoing atmosphere of beautiful chaos.”

Kawakubo created the 2008 autumn “guest designer” collection at H&M, designing men’s and women’s clothing along with some children’s and a unisex perfume.
