Halva

One of my mom’s culinary specialties is Halva, a sweet and rich dessert. We serve this type of Halva during special occasions as well as during memorial services.

Ingredients:

1 cup flour

1 glass of water

2/3 cup sugar

2/3 cup avocado oil

1/2 teaspoon saffron

1/2 cup rosewater

Pistachios and slivered almonds for garnish (optional)

Directions:

1 – Heat the oil in a frying pan.

2 – Add the flour, reduce heat and stir frequently until the flour turns golden.

3 – In a small pot add the sugar and water and bring to a boil.

4 – Add saffron and rosewater and stir.

5 – Add the sugar mixture to flour mixture and stir well.

6 – Transfer the Halva to a decorative plate or bowl and garnish with pistachios or almonds if desired.
