Demna Gvasalia, a Georgian fashion designer, is the new creative director of Balenciaga, replacing Alexander Wang.
Demna Gvasalia studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (Antwerp). Gvasalia later led design teams at Maison Margiela and Louis Vuitton.
Demna Gvasalia’s breakout label, Vetements, was a seven-person design collective that reinvented everyday urban streetwear. His label found a cult following for its youth-culture-inspired aesthetic and deconstructed silhouetters. Vetements has been described as anti-trend, anti-season and anti-gender.
Gvasalia showed his first collection for Balenciaga for autumn/winter 2016 in March.
