The son of Iranian Jewish immigrants, Elie Tahari, moved to New York in 1971 when his parents divorced and started working as an electrician. He became the head of his own company, Elie Tahari, Ltd. in the Garment District.
Elie Tahari opened a boutique on Madison Avenue in 1974. His New York flagship is located in Soho.
Tahari is among my favorite contemporary fashion designers since his clothes are modern, elegant and affordable.
Elie Tahari and his former business partner co-founded the Theory fashion brand in 1997, but he sold his share of the business in 2003.
